Ace of Chase

Posted on July 22nd, 2011 3 Comments

Until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know that the Mitsubishi City Chase even existed. Apparently, though, it’s a pretty popular event.

Today TORONTO’s Mayor Rob Ford voted against MANY community grants needed and necessary for them to run and to do business in this multi-cultural city.

You know what I think and believe but please read. I wish i had video but really, who needs to see how huge he is, really.

Pride: après le travail, le fun!

Posted on July 4th, 2011 Be the first to comment

After spending the afternoon sweating it up in our non-A/C’ed apartment, Sarah and I decided to skip the Pride parade. I didn’t shed any tears … I’d gone with tripod and sweaty brow in previous years and just didn’t feel like fighting the inevitable crush up Yonge Street.

Besides, the party on Church Street which, around Wellesley, is basically gay/lesbian-central in Toronto, is really the main event. Oh sure, you can enjoy your fill of assless-chaps along the parade route, but it’s really the after-parade party where the thing really gets going.

ONE of my dream jobs…

Posted on June 20th, 2011 2 Comments

…CONTRIBUTING TO + EDITING THIS SITE!!!

All of my life I wanted to write, be a journalist, and eventually work/make an impact on the lives of children around the world. Thus far, I have gotten the chance to dip my toe into a world that helps families in several countries in Africa thanks to my efforts with Engineers Without Borders Canada (www.ewb.ca), went to school (till I got too ill) at my DREAM university (UofT), and kept writing whenever I could. Mostly I wrote little love stories and/or wishes (?) but here I find myself being Active Editor of this wicked site about where I am from. Pretty freakin’ COOL!!!

Now, after healing up some,  I am making a fresh start right here thanks to my best friend and boyfriend Patrick, the owner of TCL and so far… So far I have had an interesting time on the job! Met some neat people too…

Also, I have made a best friend in his kitty cat Oliver, my ‘other’ boyfriend… : D They both have reminded me that just because things get tough that doesn’t mean it’s ‘over’. Thank goodness for my two favourite boys!

This job has allowed me to put forth ideas and just talk about what matters most to me and so many people I know. I intended to go off and become a human rights worker IN THE TRENCHES but my time is not up — maybe there will come a CURE FOR MS and you will find me in the middle of a conflict zone one day! You never know, right????? Damn right, lol. A girl can dream after all…

Anyhow, I just want to say ‘THANK YOU’ to all of the new+old readers and please keep on reading and participating. We have more to come! With more ways to reach out, to participate, post new pics, rant about whatever floats your boat, and just have a laugh or a smile, things should get MORE interesting!

Challenge us, message us, and we just might be wherever you are. : D

THANKS AGAIN!!

Peace out,

Love, SarahD

a day in the life…

Posted on June 9th, 2011 Be the first to comment

Lately, I MUST admit I am a lucky gal, luckier than most. I have a solid bf, a loving and affectionate kitty cat, and a bag of pretzels at my side for my salt cravings…
Ok, that is that. I am INCREDIBLY tired lately. Have you other gals ever felt super sluggish and down because of it? The heat might be a factor, but… everything seems to be ‘feeling’ wrong in terms of my body. :( AND I have to take yet another needle today, tomorrow, and always.

I take great joy in the fact that my amazing guy will return later and we will hopefully have dinner together.  :D

And YES, I am STILL at home. More mobile than 3 days ago but still at home… like a patient without patience.

Stay tuned cuz hopefully I’ll be walking around this city and dining out and sharing THAT with you instead of my moping.

MDG’S + if they still matter.

Posted on June 6th, 2011 Be the first to comment

Are you familiar with the 8 #Millennium #Development #Goals  (#MDG)??  http://bit.ly/ceWCnH

A few years ago I worked on a video for my UofT group (EWB – UofT/ ewb.ca) regarding our government’s commitment to international aid + MDGs. If I can get my hands on that video, I’ll post it because the responses to our questions were so thrilling and yet the reality if that we as a country, province and a city made me sad.

Questions were asked regarding: Do we need to keep promises made from the past? is 0.07% of our GDP too much or impossible to donate to the international money pot? If other smaller countries are able to keep the commitment, why do you think we have not EVER kept ours?

Despite our promise made to the UN back in 1969 we STILL HAVE NOT KEPT OUR WORD, EVER. Now, you can say I am biased but Pearson thought it was worth thinking about and i think we should do the same.

If you’d like to make a difference I suggest you check out this site: www.makepovertyhistory.ca and ewb.ca

TOGETHER we can make change happen, and Toronto being the most populated city in Canada who  donate 40+% of the Canada’s GDP,  I think we can definitely MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN. Together we can…

The reason for this post is PM Harper keeps making speech after speech about the economy et al. and NOT addressing our commitment to the world as a whole. Be a global citizen and take an interest one way or another.

thanks for reading and please discuss, comment, and surprise me if u like ;)

Your gal, SarahD

Doctors CAN actually be good :D

Posted on May 31st, 2011 Be the first to comment

On Sunday I reticently took myself to a new walk-in clinic (new to me, at least) and I was taken aback by something: people are really not the same and they can be really great!
Fancy that!!
It’s been a tough month or two (if u read my blog) and my experience at the clinic that day changed my perception of doctors and admin period.

So nice, so helpful, so…awesome.

I knew my boyfriend was someone extra-special from our first conversation (i asked him for the time and now months later we are stupid stupid happy and together =D) and he takes such great care of me that I thought no one could ever compare. Then i walked into The Albany Clinic and found out different, lol.

They rock and I love ’em so back off, j/k, but if you are in need of a new doc this is the place to go. I went to the walk-in but they all do rounds in the facility at large so come on down! : D

with lots of love and anti-inflammatory meds,

your gal Sarah…
